The One with Twitter

As you may have noticed, I am trying out Twitter. I read a tweet from a user today that I thought relevant considering the events here one week ago: "Yes, inappropriately fearful dogs can be dangerous. But shouldn't inappropriately fearful humans get some help, too? Aren't they a danger?" I instantly hit the "Follow" button on this insightful two-legger's page.

While navigating through the site, I also stumbled upon an update on the Pit Bull puppy from Baltimore. Her name was Phoenix and her story is horrific. It makes me sick to my stomach that people so evil exist among us. I'm sad for her short life but happy that her last days were with two-leggers who loved her and cared for her. I bet Ginger is mothering her now - probably treating her to pizza!

Despite this sad news, Twitter is mostly positive. It's what I love most about it. I have "met" SO many furry friends. And all of them have such loving two-leggers! It reassures me that there are more happy stories than sad stories. Regardless, I will say extra prayers tonight for those less fortunate than my pack.

Speaking of happy stories and well loved critters, our two-legger friends Mr. and Mrs. Crazy Cat Lady came to visit us for a bit today. Mom's head is buzzing with ideas for the space under the deck!

And even more good news... Cousin Mesa and Dr. Aunt Katie are coming to visit in....
Myspace Text -

Well, I'm off to say those prayers and then on to dreamland. Papa didn't sleep at all last night so we climbed into bed at 7. Mom is generally adamant that we all go to bed at the same time. She's silly! She did say
I could play on the laptop in bed though, which was nice, since the sun was still pretty high in the sky! Poor sleepy papa...

The One with the Update

Clothes closet - untouched!

But we DID get in a lot of walks and garden sightseeing.

And I almost caught my nemesis today... darn trees save him every time. Where does he get those suction cups for his feet? And I'm still wondering where I can get a set of cheek implants to store treats!

Speaking of treats, we did get lots today, including some ice to cool off and a pre-dinner greenie!

When papa got home, we had ate and used our puppy-eyes to score some steak left-overs. We then spent the evening outside as papa worked on the Argosy. Paint is disappearing! Cali supervised.

It was a fun filled day... exhausting!

The One with the Loch Ness Monster

Today was a quiet day but lots of fun! We took a few walks, played fetch, cuddled with mom and, despite some ominous clouds, all without storms! Without the rain we did have to water the garden and flowers though. Meanwhile, Cali and Phoenix SWORE they saw ole Nessie in the pond.

If there was something lurking in the pond, neither of these frogs were talking!

I think they were hopped up on the Greenies we had earlier in the day.

Mom has some planting to do tomorrow and she plans to clean her clothes closet... we'll see! Papa will get back from his business trip in the afternoon. Can't wait! I better get to bed early so I'm rested up for the games of hide-and-seek that will certainly ensue!

The One with the Redhead

Papa was home with us today, while mom trudged off to work. While she was gone, we had a special visitor near the pond!

This is a brief clip of the Pileated Woodpecker from this morning.

Cool, huh? Speaking of redheads, papa resumed work on the Airstream this afternoon - between the thunder clouds that is.

It's not easy to tell from this photo but papa shed his beard and mustache! His hair just poofed in minutes before my very eyes. My winter coat takes a little time to come out each season! Not papa!

The One with the Busy Day

FINALLY, I am able to get some time on the laptop. Mom has been working all day on almost-year-end statistics for a big meeting tomorrow! We mostly lounged around but occasionally glanced around for my nemesis. No sign of him today.

The weather was rather dreary but no rain. This is a quick video and a photo of the showers we had earlier this week, as recorded from the deck. If you listen closely in the video, you can hear one of our frogs singing!

This evening papa started the tedious process of stripping the paint off of the Argosy. In this first photo you can see the paint in the test area bubbling up after only a couple of minutes!

Some light scraping with a plastic scraper reveals the aluminum.

Ta-da... the early stages of a long project! Papa's goal is to have it stripped and painted before our next trip to the beach! The clock is ticking...

The One with the Happy Ending

Today started out on a not so good paw... I won't dwell on it but I will say that we woke up to someone in uniform ringing the doorbell. We're still upset about what happened next but for now I can tell you that mom argued with him on our deck for several minutes. That alone is upsetting because my mom doesn't argue with anyone! They eventually agreed to disagree and he said he came over unannounced because of some mailbox vandalism in our quiet, rural neighborhood overnight. This has happened before - usually around the same time of school year. Mom was not happy with two-leggers - young and old.

Anyway, the morning's incident slowed mom down as far as her weekend to-do list was concerned. But we all got extra love today, which I always appreciate! She will be home with us tomorrow in observance of Memorial Day so we should get lots done with the extra time!

Though the day started out negatively dog-wise, the end of the day was very pro-dog and balanced things out a bit.

Mom had a dog rescue transport this evening!

This traveler was an 11 month old Brittany Spaniel named Bummer. He began his travels yesterday morning in Texas and mom handed him off to his VERY happy forever family in Maryland tonight. They continued on to Connecticut. Mom took some pictures of Bummer and his new family. It's obvious he knew these were HIS two-leggers and where he was meant to be forever.

Mom said I shouldn't post the pictures of the family without the two-leggers' permission but Bummer said it was okay to post his pictures so here are some shots of the lucky boy!

"Another car ride... :: sigh ::"

"We're here! This is the stop I meet
my new parents, right?!"

"Home at last. I'm a lucky boy!"

The One with the Yard Work

Today we spent the day outside. Well, outside for an hour and then inside for awhile cooling off on the couch before going back out - it was HOT! The two-leggers spent the whole day outside working in the yard or taking breaks cooling off in the pool.

Here is the before picture!

They planted many flowers and papa set up the vegetable garden. Soon we'll have a wonderful harvest.

The One where Phoenix Gets a Bath

Today was a beautiful day! On our morning walk, we were hot on the trail of my nemesis!

Meanwhile, mom snapped this picture of a frog by the recently bloomed lily flower. You can make out his tiny head and eyes above the waterline! (You may have to click on the picture to enlarge it.)

While counting frogs, she noticed we have tadpoles already! Soon will have little ones everywhere. Mom tries to keep us away from the pond when they arrive. Remember the scene in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids where the dad rigs up the contraption to search the grass without walking on it? Mom has thought of doing that!

Later in the afternoon, before mom and papa took the first official swim of the summer, Phoenix got into the perfume! So mom took this picture and then off to the bath for poor little princess! See the smears on her neck? Hehehe...

The One with the Lazy Day

Today was a lazy day. Mom was working and so we pups just lounged around for the afternoon. Cali was in her usual cave-like spot under the table but was hugging the leg of the table at one point! Silly...

And slightly embarrassed?

The One after the Beach

Well, things are getting back to normal around here! The two-leggers went off to work at an undogly hour and us pups took our usual long morning nap - something we didn't have time for on vacation! There was too much to see and smell!

After naptime, our friend Stacey came by to feed us breakfast and take us for a walk. So many things are starting to bloom. Mom will be excited that her peonies are starting to pop open!

The rose bush is heavy with blossoms again but I heard mom say that when they finish flowering, she'll prune it to get the size and shape under control. This bush grows like a weed! It was in terrible shape when we moved in and the petals would fall of if you looked at them so mom is happy that she's doing something right! We're not sure what it is but we have had a lot of healthy flowers for the last few years. Maybe mom's mom's green thumb rubbed off a touch on my mom!

If she couldn't inherit her talent in the kitchen, I'll settle for being able to grow roses, I guess. Though I'd prefer a good lasagna....

Speaking of green thumbs... Crazy Cat Lady and gardener extraordinaire Lisa told mom what this was called but mom promptly forgot the name. She does have another question about it... does this regrow on old growth? Or can she trim the old growth that does not have leaves yet? (Mom's going to try to be more active in the gardening this year! So expect more questions...)

Speaking of being more active in the gardening... she better get going on the side yard - Cali almost lost Phoenix!!

The One on the Way Home

Well, we're driving home from our GREAT week in OBX! Let's see, where did I leave off? Oh yes, I sent out an update the first night during the rain storm. After my post we settled in to watch a little television before bed. So, the two-leggers were on the couch with Phoenix and Cali was at their feet, while I was settled in on the bed in the back. When mom glances down the hall in my direction and --- well, let me back up a little bit. You remember that just before we left we had a mouse situation, right? Well as mom was washing dishes, papa found a baby mouse outside by the tires. Coincidence?

Okay back to my story, so they're all tucked in watching Big Bang
Theory when mom glances down the hall and calmly (I swear) says, "Oh, there's another mouse in here." Before she finishes this monotone statement, Phoenix wakes from a deep sleep and leaps over Cali to dash down the hall. Within a matter of seconds, she caught the mouse, dropped it and passed papa in the hall to return to mom. The mouse, stunned by this quick action, laid there so papa could pick him up without incident! Cali and I had no idea that anything even happened this all went down so quickly. Mom and papa praised her for what seemed like days! They swore that if she didn't catch up to him so quickly or even see him at all, we would have all been tearing the place apart looking for this tiny mouse!

In the morning, when mom was setting up our doggy gate, she found two more baby mice sleeping in the mesh of the gate. I quote, "Oh, here are two more." What a long journey they had! Papa has since sealed up the suspected hole and we seem to be mouse free! AND mom feels a lot less nervous about mice after seeing them up close. We still don't want them in our home but they're nothing to cause the development of another irrational fear!

After that excitement, the week progressed quietly! Tuesday papa, Cali and I got up early to watch the sunrise on the beach.

A beach cricket even stopped to enjoy the sunrise.
"Papa, this is cool but it's SO early!
I can barely keep my eyes open and
poor Cali keeps yawning!"
There were three other Airstreams there and LOTS of dogs. There was also a cat that was leashed walked each day. There were rabbits and seagulls. Geese and ducks. Goslings and ducklings. Fish and stingrays. Dolphins! There was so much to see! Even underground apparently!

I was a little nervous and almost had a conniption once or twice when mom was away from me but overall I enjoyed myself. We had a lot fun taking walks.

And watching papa surf fish for the first time.

We've already booked another trip for later this summer!
