in January, each 11 days apart!

Today we celebrate mom's dad's birthday!
I wrote a bit about why he's so special here
but words can't explain how much we love him!

We love and miss you lots
and wish you a very happy birthday!!

I hear we'll be seeing you this spring!

I promise this WON'T happen.

The One with the Piano

Well, papa had to work a double shift at work last night so didn't get home until 8:30 this morning!! At least he was safe! He took a video on the way home of many, many cars just abandoned on major roads and highways. It's crazy out there!! I'll post that later but for now we're being really quiet while he naps and then we'll be out playing in the snow!!

In the meantime, have any of you seen the video of Tucker playing the piano? He is SO talented! His video was on the Today show this morning (hey, I have to kill time while papa naps SOMEHOW!):

The One with Wordy Wednesday

Oh my goodness!! Did you see the fantastical Deputy Dog badge Richie and Ronnii made for me???

Photobucket

In other news... I predict tomorrow is going to be F U N! Check out what's happening NOW!

Phoenix and I did our best to eat as much snow as we could so mom didn't have to shovel! She only did little bits at a time.. don't worry!

Papa had to go to work, of course, but should be home by midnight. Paws crossed that he has a safe drive home. We already have 4" and the roads are a mess. The word is the snow is coming down at about 2" an hour. As soon as papa is home, I will be SO excited to play in it tomorrow. But for now we're hoping it slows down so he gets home without trouble.

The One with DONUTS

Some of you may have heard that my bestest boy dog, Sarge, the Official Chief of Police of Blogville, has appointed me DEPUTY DOG! (Isn't he handsome???)

At first I was honored.
Then I was excited because
I know my papa will be SO proud of me.
Then, inevitably, I was nervous.

You see, despite my Shepherd ancestry, I'm not exactly the bravest dog you'll meet. In fact, when my two-leggers rescued me I was pretty much scared cautious of EVERYTHING! With lots of patience and love from my family, I'm a LOT more confident now but... me... a deputy?!? I wasn't sure that I would be up to the task!

I talked to my mom, my biggest cheerleader, and she said she KNEW I could do it. She reminded me of how far I've come and how much more comfortable I am with the most intimidating situation for me... meeting new two-leggers! Then she reminded me that in Blogville, I would be with all my friends and new doggies and kitties, whom I love to meet! I was halfway convinced I could do it.

Then today I read something on Sarge's blog. As a deputy, I'm entitled to DONUTS!!

I'm in. It's official. I'm Sarge's Deputy Dog!!

The One with Friendly Friday

Remember back this summer when I did a post about the amazing Blue Ridge Wildlife Center where two of my most favorite two-leggers, The Crazy Cat Lady AND Ms. Stacey, both volunteer? Well, TODAY the BRWC was on the BIG CITY news! Here's a clip - though not the clip I was hoping for! This morning they showed an super cool fly cage (I might have the lingo wrong). It's round so they can fly endlessly if they want to versus a square or rectangle space where they'd have to turn around. It was very interesting! Plus they showed us a turtle, which Phoenix LOVES!!

Click to visit - they have lots of cute pictures!

The One with the Construction

So did everyone who wanted snow get to have lots of snow zoomies this week? Khyra, I sent some of the little snow we got up your way... did you get it??

Other than the bit of snow fun, it's been bbboooorrrring here!

Mom is starting her busy season at work and papa has been working on some remodeling in the house. The mess is slowly getting better. You'll have to trust me on that. You would never believe it from this picture!

We have been so neglected. My bed hasn't been made in days and Phoenix's princess pillow on the couch is in serious need of fluffing. Can you believe this?!

The good news is I hear this is a long weekend. So at least mom will be home with us an extra day! Does anyone have fun plans?

The One with the Sonogram at the End

After 495 posts, it is rare that I can use an ACTUAL Friends title. But it works today!

Did anyone happen to notice my new blog countdown in the sidebar????

That's right, at the end of June, I... ZONA... will have my very own mini-two-legger!! I thought mom had just put on some holiday weight but I guess it's only partly holiday weight! Lots of people are asking her if we're more "clingy" than normal now that she has a mini-two-legger on board. She laughs when they ask that because pregnancy couldn't possibly change anything in that respect. If we were to get any closer to her, she'd be carrying us around on her back! So no... we're not any different. At least not yet. I think when mom gets bigger, Phoenix will have to change a little bit because there won't be as much lap left for her to lay on!

Here's a sonogram picture from a few weeks ago!

The One Where We Get Back to Normal

HELLO!!! It's been a long time since I've had a regular post! First we had Christmas and a visit from papa's parents.

Click here to see pictures from their visit..
and the visit from the horses on Christmas Eve!!

And then... you won't believe this... my two-leggers ABANDONED us for a WEEK!! I couldn't blog much because I was in charge of looking out for my nemesis. You all know how time consuming that is!! Mom and papa got to visit Mesa and Molly so we were all a little bit jealous.

Click here to see pictures of the two-leggers trip west!

I'm back now and starting to catch up on your blogs. There were over 400 posts and so... mom... without asking me!... clicked the dreaded "MARK ALL READ." I'm still checking in so let me know if we've missed anything exciting these last couple of weeks!

Thanks to everyone for all of the cards!! I loved each and every one of them!!!

The One with All of the 2011 Resolutions

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Zona's Eleven Resolutions for 2011

Exercise Daily - As it is important to the health of us pups and is great for bonding, I will encourage my pack to exercise daily by chasing me all through the yard. In addition, I will continue to encourage my mom to exercise by running away from her at full speed to the far corner of the property and then bailing like a sheep in distress. Only to sit on the knoll waiting for her to run to me to make sure I'm okay. (Haha, I love that game.)

Take Time for a Grooming Regimen - I will continue to find doggie perfume to roll in which will ensure frequent baths and the subsequent visual health checks. I will also bite my nails as they grow longer. Mom hates that sound so it prompts her to trim all of our nails. (What would she do without my reminders?) While I'm on the topic of grooming, I will try to teach Phoenix NOT to walk under us larger dogs as we are attempting to potty.

Eat Well - My two-leggers bring home only the best dog food for us, since they know how important nutrition is to our health and longevity. To show my thanks, I resolve to, at their constant request, no longer eat rabbit poo. Correction, I resolve to TRY to no longer eat rabbit poo. Well, we better make that, I resolve to no longer get caught eating rabbit poo.

Save Bones for a Rainy Day - I will try to be more frugal and save some of my bones and treats for a rainy day. I said I will try. No promises.

Contribute to Charity - I will try to visit Jackie, the dog next door, each day. Mom and papa have mixed feelings about this but I think it's important. Jackie is outside all day and into the night with seemingly no interaction with her two-leggers. I try to visit her when I can to show her some affection and play a little bit... now it's through the fence. I wish I could do more. I know she is lucky in some respects - she is not abused and she has food and shelter (I hope) - but I know she misses the days when she was a puppy. The kids played with her and she spent most of her time inside with her family. We dogs need companionship! It reminds me how lucky my pack is.

Spend Quality Time with my Family - I resolve to never take for granted the time I spend with my pack - two and four legged!

Support My Friends - I will do my best to put my cautious nature aside when I am called upon in situations that make me uneasy, like accompanying my sisters to the the vet. I would do anything for my pack.

Help Others to Enjoy Life - I resolve to keep Cali active and trim by playing chase and fetch with her. I resolve to always be a welcoming pillow for Phoenix when she wants to cuddle after a full day. I resolve to be a good companion for mom and will try to bark less when people knock on TV. And I resolve to show papa how delightful it is to be silly and how letting a sixty pound lap dog share your chair is good for the soul.

Be Kinder to my Nemesis - I pledge to not chase my nemesis... I pledge to not chase my nemesis as much... I pledge to give my nemesis a bit of a head start--- ugh... who am I kidding?!

Learn Something New Each Day - I learned many useful things in 2010 and refined some skills such as how to open the baby gate; how to look pitiful enough that papa will invite me to sit on his lap in his aforementioned chair; that, no matter where we go in the car, we will always return home; how to play with a few more interactive toys; that getting everyone to bark with panic just as mom has her hair full of shampoo in the shower is hilarious; how to take off leash walks with horses nearby; how to sneak into the pasture to visit the horses later; that poking my head into the fridge or taking a peek in the trash gets me shooed away (what do they keep in there?!); as previously mentioned, how to signal my nails need to be trimmed; and, where papa's best hiding places are. I pledge to continue to learn in 2011 Requests are being accepted.

This list has ten resolutions. Any suggestions as to what I should add to the list as my eleventh resolution for 2011? What are your resolutions?

I wish all of you a happy and healthy 2011!
