The One with All of the 2011 Resolutions

Zona's Eleven Resolutions for 2011

Exercise Daily - As it is important to the health of us pups and is great for bonding, I will encourage my pack to exercise daily by chasing me all through the yard. In addition, I will continue to encourage my mom to exercise by running away from her at full speed to the far corner of the property and then bailing like a sheep in distress. Only to sit on the knoll waiting for her to run to me to make sure I'm okay. (Haha, I love that game.)

Take Time for a Grooming Regimen - I will continue to find doggie perfume to roll in which will ensure frequent baths and the subsequent visual health checks. I will also bite my nails as they grow longer. Mom hates that sound so it prompts her to trim all of our nails. (What would she do without my reminders?) While I'm on the topic of grooming, I will try to teach Phoenix NOT to walk under us larger dogs as we are attempting to potty.

Eat Well - My two-leggers bring home only the best dog food for us, since they know how important nutrition is to our health and longevity. To show my thanks, I resolve to, at their constant request, no longer eat rabbit poo. Correction, I resolve to TRY to no longer eat rabbit poo. Well, we better make that, I resolve to no longer get caught eating rabbit poo.

Save Bones for a Rainy Day - I will try to be more frugal and save some of my bones and treats for a rainy day. I said I will try. No promises.

Contribute to Charity - I will try to visit Jackie, the dog next door, each day. Mom and papa have mixed feelings about this but I think it's important. Jackie is outside all day and into the night with seemingly no interaction with her two-leggers. I try to visit her when I can to show her some affection and play a little bit... now it's through the fence. I wish I could do more. I know she is lucky in some respects - she is not abused and she has food and shelter (I hope) - but I know she misses the days when she was a puppy. The kids played with her and she spent most of her time inside with her family. We dogs need companionship! It reminds me how lucky my pack is.

Spend Quality Time with my Family - I resolve to never take for granted the time I spend with my pack - two and four legged!

Support My Friends - I will do my best to put my cautious nature aside when I am called upon in situations that make me uneasy, like accompanying my sisters to the the vet. I would do anything for my pack.

Help Others to Enjoy Life - I resolve to keep Cali active and trim by playing chase and fetch with her. I resolve to always be a welcoming pillow for Phoenix when she wants to cuddle after a full day. I resolve to be a good companion for mom and will try to bark less when people knock on TV. And I resolve to show papa how delightful it is to be silly and how letting a sixty pound lap dog share your chair is good for the soul.

Be Kinder to my Nemesis - I pledge to not chase my nemesis... I pledge to not chase my nemesis as much... I pledge to give my nemesis a bit of a head start--- ugh... who am I kidding?!

Learn Something New Each Day - I learned many useful things in 2010 and refined some skills such as how to open the baby gate; how to look pitiful enough that papa will invite me to sit on his lap in his aforementioned chair; that, no matter where we go in the car, we will always return home; how to play with a few more interactive toys; that getting everyone to bark with panic just as mom has her hair full of shampoo in the shower is hilarious; how to take off leash walks with horses nearby; how to sneak into the pasture to visit the horses later; that poking my head into the fridge or taking a peek in the trash gets me shooed away (what do they keep in there?!); as previously mentioned, how to signal my nails need to be trimmed; and, where papa's best hiding places are. I pledge to continue to learn in 2011 Requests are being accepted.

This list has ten resolutions. Any suggestions as to what I should add to the list as my eleventh resolution for 2011? What are your resolutions?

I wish all of you a happy and healthy 2011!

  1. BOL! I was rolling off the couch when I got to the one about eating better! Zona, your resolutions are much better than mine this year! I bow to you!

  2. Great resolutions!! I will try to exercise more....

    pee.s. happy new year!

  3. Happy New Year, Zona. I have nothing to add to the list. In fact, I think you're already pawfect!

    lotsa licks, Lola

  4. Hehehehe...Oh Zona, just gives up on da rabbit poo and squirrel chasin'...your only setting yourself up fur failure and then you'll just be sad. I think your list is purty darn good and I don't think I could possibly add anymore to it (prolly cuz it's 5 am and I don't think at dis hour).
Happy New Year to You and your pack!

  5. We think those are great resolutions!
    Happy New Year,

  6. Great resolutions, Zona - don't you think ten is enough? BOL.

TD has to work on the leg lifting thing - he seems to manage to time it pawfectly to spray Ciara as she walks by on our walks.

    Happy New Year.

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

  7. Save your bones for a rainy day, bawhahahahah! You are kidding, right? That's a funny one. It is very nice of you to visit poor Jackie next door. That makes me sad to think about.

    Happy New Year.

    Your pal, Pip

  8. Oh Zona... you had my mom rollin on the carpet over the rabbit poop and the walkin under thingys.
I think your resolutions are super.. I'm just sayin'.

  9. I'm so furry impressed!

Those are surely resolutions to be admired by all!

    Happy 2011!

  10. My Shiver chews his nails too! I mentioned it to the vet once and he didn't seem concerned about it so I let him do it. Sometimes I'll tell him his nails are getting too long and that it's time for him to trim them up. I wish Chico would chew his. They grow like wildfire and he fights me fiercely when I try to trim them.

That's so sad about your neighbor's dog. I dont' understand why anyone would have a dog just to leave it outside and not interact with it. What would be the point? Chico's previous owners did that too. He was either left outside or in the garage all the time. But fortunately, he came to me and I would never consider doing something like that to him.

I love all of your resolutions, Zona! Happy New Year!

  11. Zona, I pale in your light. I had thought I'd aim to catch at least one darn squirrel, and be more patient when Becky insists on worshipping me. Maybe I should work on that list....

  12. Those are very good resolutions!
    Happy New Year!
    Kisses and hugs

  13. I can't think of a thing for you to add - your resolutions are perfect! (And some had me laughing loudly!)You really impress me with your thoughtfulness for Jackie.
I make no resolutions, and no excuse for it either. BOL
Happy New Year to you and your pack!

  14. We like your resolutions... but the one about Jackie makes us sad. Some people just don't LOVE animals the way our mama does. We can't imagine being alone outside day after day. What is the point of being a dog with that kind of life? :( You are nice to try to spend some time with her through the fence. Maybe she will jump over!

  15. Those are super terrific resolutions, Zona! I especially like the one about practicing charity - even though it broke my heart to hear about Jackie. I dunno why humans have doggies if they don't want them to be a part of the family.

Oh, and I liked the exercise one, too. I'm gonna have to try that game with my mom. It sounds like FUN and I bet she'll like it lots.

Happy New Year, my dear furend!

    Wiggles & Wags,

  16. Those are excellent resolutions. We need to think about making some, but they're so hard to keep.
    Morgan, Tsar and the Porties

  17. Hey My Bestest, Onliest Girl Zona!
Wow, this is about your bestest post ever! I love it! Great resolutions. I have some similar ones about being better in social situations and cutting back on the barking. I can't even kid myself about cutting back on lap time with Dad in his since even trying. As for the rest, I just keep losing count. This was super-cute...just like you!
Grr and my Most Affectionate Woof,
    Sarge, COP
