The One with Two Woolly Worms

Papa found this guy outside! Woolly worm forecasters -- yes, there are such two leggers! There are even town festivals with worm races and fun events to lead up to the prediction of the upcoming winter based on the little caterpillars' bands. Okay, so any way these forecasters can predict, with a boasted 85% accuracy (disputed by scientists but I bet a certain groundhog would side with the Woolly Worms), the weeks of winter based on the thickness and color of the 13 bands and the thickness of the hairs. In summary, I found this:
Orange: Mild
Brown: Cold
Brown with black spot: Possible Ice
Black: Cold/Severe Cold and Snow
My friend has NO brown!! Does that mean another snowy winter?? I hope so!!

It's interesting... I have a Woolly Bear inside too!

  2. We have tons of snow here, stop by and take some home with you if you want some.

I saw a white one once. It seems like it had a yellow stripe or two although I could be wrong. It's been awhile since I saw it.

  3. How funny that you would find a wooly-worm, and I found one yesterday that was all black too--I wonder what they are trying to tell us? Whatever it is, I'm not listening!

  18. I have no idea what a woolie worm is. I don't know if we have them where I live. I'm on the West Coast in Southern California. I know they do get snow n the mountains, but we're not in the mountains. I've never seen snow. It sure looks fun!

  19. Hi Cali! Wow we never heard of those woolly worms before - and we had no idea that you could figure out the winter based on their fur color! We wish it had been orange - we don't like the cold and snow very much! But it does seem to be correct so far!

  20. Heehee! I luved both those Woolly worms but I think the second one is my favoritest! (We don't have woolly worms here but if we did, they'd prolly have little bathing suits on or something. I'm pretty sure winter is NEVER gonna gets to Collie-rado.)

  22. We always watch for signs from our nature friends to see what winter will be like. The more fur they have then usually the colder the winter....atleast that is what we think....Enjoy the snow!
