The One Where My Nemesis Calls a Truce

What a full two days we've had! Company arrived, a feast was had, gifts were opened... all very exciting! The most surprising thing happened on Christmas Eve. Intriguing even! Papa went to the mailbox after the sun went down to see if my pizza order from Arizona had arrived yet. It had not. However, I was surprised by this special delivery package waiting for me there.

Christmas wishes and a thank you from the very nemesis who torments me through the glass door? What a good example he sets for the rest of us! He even shared his stash of winter treats with me! Don't let the tiny footprints and kind nature fool you though; he is a full sized squirrel, who loves to tease me during beautiful spring days!

I hope not only my nemesis but all my readers had a wonderful Christmas! We sure did! Click here to see some pictures from our holiday.

And all of us pups send a great big thank you to Arizona for all of our gifts! We especially love the hand-me-downs and the big giraffe!

The One with the Christmas Eve Wish

On Christmas morning, I wish...

For every dog and cat searching trash cans for breakfast,
a filled bowl with his name printed in bright letters.

For every dog who slept fitfully last night
chained in a frozen yard and every cat
who wandered the cold streets,

a soft, warm bed with a person snoring gently nearby.

For every lost pet, a clear, safe road and
well marked path to lead you home.

For every shelter animal, spending Christmas
morning in a soiled run, a forever home
filled with sounds and smells of family.

For every "Christmas" pup and kitten given today,
a tolerant, caring owner who won't abandon you
as you grow into a real dog or cat.

For every ailing pet, enough money for your
owner to pay the bills to make you well.

For every old and tired friend, a warm fire and
soft bed to ease your aches and pains.

For every pet at the Bridge, a moment when
you know that you are remembered today,
missed again and loved forever.

The One with the Ornaments

Our guests have arrived! Christmas is officially on the way!

It fascinates me what two-leggers find interesting! What I find interesting is the book mom is reading, The Other End of the Leash. As you can see, I took a peek. While I was reading, I noticed that the birds having been coming by for the pre-Christmas buffet.

A few nights ago the two-leggers went to the Crazy Critter People's house for a Wii Dinner Party. Mom came home smelling like kitties - we sure find that intriguing! And they came home with our first gifts of the season!!

Ornaments with all of our initials on them! Isn't the Crazy Critter Family thoughtful??

Today, not only did our special guests arrive, but so did the much anticipated M&M Christmas cards! Last year we only got the one card! This year we got TWO!

Meanwhile, we're just counting down the days until we can tear into our stockings!

The One with the Nor'Easter

Do you see that?! 12-20" of snow coming our way!! Mom was already going to be home with us, of course, but I just got the word that papa will be here too! Snow AND papa? Should be a great post tomorrow! It started to fall about a half hour ago and the two-leggers say there will be a few inches by the time we wake up in the morning.

Wally and Stella are snug, toasty warm, in their bed for the snowy night and a tarp is rigged up to keep the snow out of their enclosure so they can easily move about when it's time for us pups to play! They love watching us run!

Speaking of the fun times to come, Phoenix is concerned about how she will maneuver through nearly two feet of snow, considering she has a measly 5" clearance!

Her primary concern today was if the pellet stove is working properly.

"Hmm..."
Seems to be working..."Don't turn this off, okay?"

The One with the Letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

Here we are, 9 days away from Christmas! Speaking of the big day, I wondered who you have to know to be able to work one day per year? I'd love to get my papa a job like that! I digress, I wanted to send you a note a little early this year BEFORE you make out your final list.

There are some things I would like to clarify.

There has been a great misunderstanding over the perfume. This "stink" is not a stink but a gracious way to welcome papa home from long trips. I ask you, how is my desire to welcome my wonderful papa home "bad?" Not to mention, it's a helpful reminder to mom that we are due for baths, since she for unknown reasons does not enjoy the fragrance.

In addition, there has been some chatter about my true intentions with regard to my nemesis. I would like to reiterate that my interest in said squirrel is simply for research purposes.

As for this... Phoenix did it.

So, as you can see, my minor and limited transgressions are simply misconstrued! I hope you'll take this under consideration as you pack your sleigh in a few days. I am sure my readers would send reference letters, should you need further convincing. I have been a good girl - I post public service announcements and prayer requests, I take my two-leggers on long walks, I babysit my sisters... I can go on but I know you're busy.

In fact to make your stop our house easier next week, let me show you our stockings.

If you're too busy, you can fill this one and skip the others, I'll share.

Some presents have already been arriving...

So you can just pile any gifts that don't fit in my stocking on the couch. I'd like a 17' Bambi.... that might not fit on the couch so you can just leave that outside. Also, may I please have a barn so I can adopt some new friends? You better leave that outside too. (Mom does not like having straw on the carpet for some reason.) Some new puzzle games and yummy treats would also be appreciated!

I anxiously await your arrival...

Love,
Zona

The One Where the Sun Comes Out

Historically, I only post about mom's unusual transports. And this time I got so many "how are they doing" questions that I thought I should post a follow up! I have the best readers - they care about dogs they've never even met!

Hokey and Pokey (now Butch (Cassidy) and (Sundance) Kid) are settling in to their foster home. Though last night was hard, this morning was very encouraging. They love their foster mom's dogs, as we suspected, and this seems to be the way to their hearts! See how happy they look?

I just know they'll have wonderfully happy lives!

Speaking of happy lives, at the park, the sun has returned!

Watching Puppy Cali run here and there enjoying the sun.

The boys weren't too sure about coming out this afternoon. I think they've had enough of the wet weather! They haven't even been swimming! Look at these dirty faces through the vent on their house.

Finally, Wally took mom's word for it and decided to step out to make sure it had indeed stopped raining.

Phoenix was fascinated by the chunks of ice mom pushed out of the duck pond this morning! That pup loves ice!

We have a big day tomorrow - papa comes home!!! Better go rest up and check to be sure the hiding places are clear for our game. This is Miss Cali - tired from the long day but at the mention of going back outside - wide awake!! Silly Cali...

The One with Hokey and Pokey

As I write this post, I see a weather advisory for tomorrow has been announced. I wonder what Mother Nature has in store for us!

Luckily for the two-leggers, today was beautiful! The morning was cold - low 20s - but the sun was shining and the roads were dry. They left early to head south to help with a rescue transport for two Catahoula puppies.

Mom was grateful that papa was able to accompany her on the trip for many reasons but mostly because the puppies, Hokey and Pokey, were scared and moving them from the first driver's car was not as easy as they'd hoped. Having extra hands and eyes was helpful! Once they were safely moved into mom and papa's truck, they huddled together in the far corner, wedged in to the tiniest space in the truck! Look at these cuties...

They got slightly more comfortable as the ride progressed. Though still nervous, Hokey was pleased to be able to use Pokey as an ottoman for most of the trip. Look at Pokey's multicolored eyes!

Poor Pokey - wondering what in the world is going on with all of these different people and cars. Papa had to carry him because he was too frozen in place to walk. Sure is reminiscent of my rescue a few years ago.

After about 90 minutes on the road with mom and papa, they were transferred into the safe hands of Frankie. The brothers cuddled up to each other once again for the next leg of their journey.

They'll soon arrive at their foster home and will be such happy boys! They were not the least bit aggressive, just shy and unsure what was going on - how strange to be transferred from car to car! As I mentioned on my homecoming anniversary this summer, I can certainly relate to being shy and frozen in fear. I wish I was there so I could have helped mom tell them how great life will be for them now that they'll be with two-leggers who love them! Anyone with a shy or fearful pup should check out this wonderfully helpful website.

Meanwhile, Cali and I are resting next to the tree wishing all puppies could be as loved as the three of us are!
