The One After the Weekend
At last the sun has been out for a couple of days! This weekend was fun since both two-leggers were home for a change.
On Saturday, mom and papa went to a drafthouse cinema. Papa knows the only way to get mom to a movie these days is bribe her with food! They saw what, unbeknown to them at the time, is apparently being called by many "one of the worst movies of all time." They certainly agreed. Men Who Stare at Goats, I'm told, is a plotless, far-left, dark movie which is not as depicted in the trailers. They walked out after about two-thirds of the movie and after members of the audience laughed at a scene where a soldier suffering from PTSD committed suicide in the exercise yard. That's about the same length of time they lasted in The Thin Red Line, the only other movie they've walked out of in the past. Mom says this was worse.
So Sunday they worked around the house and fixed up the enclosure for Wally & Stella a bit. It was a beautiful day!

Mom cleaned the cars and let us stand in the back until vacuuming time.

That is - until we got into the perfume. No sitting in the cars after that! Boo!
We were forgiven quickly and waited patiently for a taste of the wonderful ribs papa cooked up for dinner!
How could they resist this face??

All and all, it was a beautiful fall weekend here at the park!

Of course, it IS tiring watching the two-leggers run about so Phoenix only had a modified spin routine before settling onto her television pillow.

The One with the Cross Country Message
The One with the News
My regular readers know that I generally post about day to day life at the park. However, with the rain washing out the excitement around here, I had to resort to mainstream news for my post today.
Sabi has been reunited with her Australian unit in Afghanistan after being MIA for 14 months! What a timely story, considering my post on Wednesday about courageous war dogs! She is a bomb-sniffing dog who disappeared after a fierce battle between her troops and militant fighters. Sabi is now receiving a celebrity's welcome!
Another celebrity: Noah Biorkman is a five year old in the late stages of a long battle with cancer. His family celebrated Christmas early and, since Noah loves Christmas cards, there was a movement online to encourage as many people as possible to send cards to Noah. (Of course, my mom thought this was a hoax so she verified the story on snopes.com.) Within Noah's CarePage yesterday, his mom posted that they are thankful yet overwhelmed with the support they have received. She graciously asked that cards and gifts no longer be sent. On Monday alone they received 80,000 pieces of mail! And, though the post office was closed on Veteran's Day, the Biorkman's still received mail! What a testament to viral marketing and the proof that kind, thoughtful two-leggers are out there!
A similar example of how "viral" things can become: the upcoming movie about the year 2012. To put this into context, click here and here. As you will be reminded, there have been numerous doomsday predictions that never came to pass. Two-leggers love the drama and suspense, I suppose, so it's no wonder Live Science has said "doomsdays come and go, but conspiracy theories are forever."
Of course, my view may be skewed. I'm a product of my two-leggers after all and many are aware of mom's firm belief in the power of positive thinking. For example, earlier this week an article ran about the effectiveness of the placebo effect. This is met with much resistance within the medical field but even those in traditional medicine acknowledge that a patient's mental state is integral to their health and recovery.
That concludes this afternoon's episode of random news. As the sun is starting to peek out from behind the clouds, tomorrow we will return to our regularly scheduled programing!

The One with a Pig in a Blanket
The last couple of days have been slow around the park. Papa went hunting with Mr. C-C-L yesterday very early in the morning. Mom left soon after so we took a snooze until breakfast. Cali and I were naughty when Stacey came to play with us. Yep - the perfume. Two-leggers will never understand our need to smell nice. Quite frankly, they are appalled!
Well, it took mom an almost record breaking 2 hours and 50 minutes to get home that night so papa arrived first and gave us baths. Phoenix was spared. With all of this rain, she's been spending most of the days snuggled in blankets.
Today brought another trip to the woods for papa and Mr. C-C-L. Working from home, mom got a message around 11 that they made their way to a Mexican restaurant and were calling it a day - too rainy! This is very reminiscent of papa's recent hunting trips with Rodger.

My nemesis sure has been living it up, as he knows we're trapped inside due to the weather. He's playing in the plum tree - SO close, yet so far. And taunting me. The rain will stop eventually, "Super Squirrel." I'll be rested. Will you?
